Brownsville ISD teacher arrested on a charge of improper relationship with a student
A teacher with the Brownsville Independent School District was arrested after allegedly having an improper relationship with a student, according to Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz.
Julio Ricardo Trujillo, 43, was arrested Thursday on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and student.
Trujillo is in custody pending his arraignment.
Saenz said his office's special investigations unit collaborated with the Brownsville ISD Police Department during an ongoing investigation into the alleged improper relationship that led to Trujillo's arrest.
Prior to his arrest, the Simon Rivera Early College High School website listed Trujillo as a teacher for the CTE Department, and the head girls basketball coach.
“As educators, we entrust teachers with the profound responsibility of guiding and protecting our students," Saenz said in a statement. "When that trust is violated, we will act swiftly and decisively. Our office is committed to upholding the safety and integrity of our schools and ensuring justice for all students.”
Brownsville ISD released a statement saying one of their employees has been arrested and are unable to comment further on ongoing investigations or personnel matters.
The release said that the district was aware of allegations involving Rivera and Hanna early college high schools.
"At this time, the only information we can provide is that one of the employees has been arrested, while the others involved are either no longer employed by the district or are currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations."
