Donations being collected in the Rio Grande Valley for victims of deadly central Texas flood

In response to reports of nearly 80 deaths in central Texas following several flash floods, many in the Rio Grande Valley are stepping in to help.

CAMERON COUNTY

La Feria ISD announced they and other school districts in the Valley are collecting gift cards to be delivered to families in need in Kerr County.

Those wanting to donate the gift cards can drop them off at the La Feria Central Office Building, located at 203 E. Oleander Ave., on Wednesday, July 9 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Gift card holders will be provided so those donating can provide a note of encouragement.

Gift cards from H-E-B, Walmart and Amazon are being accepted.

Point Isabel ISD will have a similar gift card collection.

Gift cards can be dropped off at the Point Isabel ISD Central Office building at 101 Port Road. 

The gift card collection runs from Monday, July 7 through Wednesday, July 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Upper Deck Hotel & Bar in South Padre Island is asking for donations of cleaning supplies to be delivered to the affected areas.

The cleaning supplies can be dropped off at the Upper Deck, located at 120 E. Atol St. in South Padre Island. 

On Monday, Brownsville Mayor John Cowen announced the Junior League Brownsville is organizing a donation drive to support those impacted by the flooding.

The league is collecting cleaning supplies and hygiene items from Monday, July 7 through Tuesday, July 8.

HIDALGO COUNTY

Ranch House Burgers in Mission is collecting donations of water, pet food and cleaning supplies to be sent to Boerne.

Donations can be dropped off at 409 Bryan Rd. through Monday, July 7 at noon.

The La Joya Police Department is accepting donations of non-perishable food items, bottled water, sanitary items, first aid supplies and other items. 

They can be dropped off at the La Joya Police Department, located at 701 Expressway 83 in La Joya. Collected items will be distributed to impacted areas in the coming days, the department said.
