As of now, Canterbury Elementary School in Edinburg is closed for the school year, that means students will no longer report to that campus.

Crews are working to clean the inside of the elementary school and students are adjusting to their new temporary classrooms.

Canterbury Elementary School families are still getting used to their new locations.

"It seems a little chaotic, honestly," parent Jennifer Ortega said.

Monday was the first day of classes at the Edinburg Recreation Center for about 400 Canterbury Elementary School students.

It's the second time a group of students has been moved after E. coli was found inside the campus. The district says sewage got into the school during the March floods.

"I was a little surprised though when on Friday my daughter said we weren't going to come back to the school, so that was a little jarring," parent Ivas Soto said.

Channel 5 News spoke with parents who say they have mixed feelings.

While they're glad the students are in a safe place now, Soto worries about how the last few weeks of classes will be impacted.

"I'm frustrated because it's affecting my daughter's education," Soto said.

Meanwhile, Ortega is worried about the time her daughter, who is diagnosed with diabetes, spent in the school.

"She was literally sick for a whole month after the flooding originally happened. Like, every week I take her to the doctor," Ortega said. "She was in a portable at the school, so she should have been fine, but I feel that the time that she would go into the school building that she would be exposed to stuff."

While students are at the rec center, crews are deep cleaning Canterbury Elementary. The district says the level of bacteria found was not enough to affect anyone's health.

Still, the decision to move all students out of the campus is giving parents peace of mind.

"I'm grateful that they're doing it, if they feel like it's unsafe or out of an abundance of caution," Soto said.

The first group of students that were moved last week are attending Freddy Gonzalez Elementary. All students will finish the school year at the temporary locations.
