RGV tennis stars results from UIL state tournament
Over a dozen athletes from the RGV traveled to compete in the UIL high school state tennis tournament. Sharyland, who sent a total of eight players to the tournament, had numerous impressive finishes.
Rattlers tennis stars Koen Aggarao and Shyrabelle Buquel finished as state runners-up in 5A mixed doubles, losing to a team from Frisco Lebanon Trail.
Sofia Cantu and Selah Geddes finished as semifinalists in 5A girls doubles while Eduardo Gonzalez and Diego Sanchez did the same in 5A boys doubles. Andres Garcia and Grace Shahin were knocked out in the round of 16 in 5A mixed doubles.
Other valley schools sending teams included Valley View and Raymondville. The Tigers were represented by Jesus De La Cerda and Miguel Mejia in 4A boys doubles. Raymondville sent Leon Guzman and Josiah Alvarado for 3A boys doubles. Both teams lost in the round of 16.
McAllen Memorial’s Dania Casas and McAllen High’s Eduardo Pastor competed in an individual capacity in the tournament. Casas finished as a quarterfinalist in 5A girls singles as did Pastor in 5A boys singles.
