Neighbor reacts following double homicide in home near Brownsville
Christmas lights still decorate a home near Brownsville that’s wrapped in yellow crime scene tape.
The home at the 6200 block of Tecate Street is where two women were murdered on Sunday. One person has been charged in connection with the double homicide after the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office said he confessed to the killings.
Cameron County Sheriff Manuel Trevino said the women will not be identified out of respect for the family. The suspect, 48-year-old Joel Uriegas Izaguirre, was identified as the husband of one of the victims.

Juana Maria Pecina said one of the unidentified victims was a respected member of the community.
“She never bothered anyone, she was a good person who helped people,” Pecina said.
Pecina said she's known the owner of the home for 20 years. She said the woman attended church often and she considered her a good friend.
Now, the neighborhood mourns the loss of both women.
“She was a good person, a good neighbor, a good friend, a good mom, a good grandma,” Pecina said.
At a Monday press conference, Trevino said Izaguirre planned to kill his wife over marital issues they were having. He is currently being held at the Cameron County jail with no bond.
