Veterans receive designated parking spots in Hidalgo County universities and colleges
Veterans attending college or university will how have designated parking spots.
On Wednesday, Hidalgo County distributed “Veteran Parking only” sings to South Texas College, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the Texas A&M University-Higher Education Center at McAllen.
The move is part of Armed Forces Week, and aims to honor those who have served in the U.S. military, according to a news release.
“We believe that the contributions of our veterans should be recognized not only through words but through tangible actions,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez stated in the news release. “These signs are a small but meaningful gesture to show our appreciation for the selfless service of our veterans, especially those who are pursuing higher education.”
The signs will be installed at participating schools and institutions of higher learning across Hidalgo County, with the aim of making veterans feel more welcomed and acknowledged in their academic environments.
