As previously reported, Salinas was charged for accepting bribes from June 2019 to March 2020 in exchange for votes in favor of a contract for an unidentified Edinburg business owner.
An unnamed Edinburg elected official was also involved in the scheme, the indictment alleges.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, politiquero Miguel “Mike” Garza was the man who facilitated the deal between the two Edinburg elected officials and the Edinburg business owner.
“The public has a right to expect honesty and integrity from government officials,” U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei said in a statement. “If you participate in a pay-to-play scheme in the Southern District of Texas, you will definitely pay—the cost will be a federal indictment and prison term.”
Garza was indicted in May 2022 in connection with the investigation and pleaded guilty the following year. His sentencing is also set for November 2025.
The FBI conducted the investigation.
Salinas faces up to 10 years in prison.
